In this article, we will be addressing if zero waste is attainable and what you can do to help contribute to creating a more environmentally friendly world.
Zero waste is a goal that aims to reduce what we trash in our landfills and incinerators. But is “Zero Waste” even attainable?

There are many articles and blogs out there about if zero-waste on an individual level is actually achievable and we’ll be addressing them below.

Is Zero Waste Achievable?

Change must start with you, we may never get to a zero-waste world but we can make better decisions to slow down the problem. Start thinking about where you spend your money, what you buy and how you recycle. Here is a list of things you can do to move towards “zero-waste.” You can make small changes in your life too, and together we can make a difference!
Tips to improve your waste use:
  • Reduce and Reuse before Recycling
  • Look at the packaging and count the pieces of rubbish if you purchased them
  • Refuse plastic shopping bags and take reusable bags
  • Limit the use of soft plastics
  • Choose paper bags when buying fresh produce items
  • Use bins and jars
  • Stop using cling wrap and choose Tupperware
  • Don’t use straws
  • recycle my unavoidable soft plastics at supermarket collection bins
By making these easy changes to your life you can cut down on an enormous percentage of household waste. Your landfill waste should be able to fit in a small container and everything else could be recycled or composted.

What’s Wrong with Landfills?

The average American sends 4.4lbs of trash to the landfill every day. We live in a disposable society where we don't value our belongings, and we're consuming way too many resources.

A lot of trash doesn't even make it to the landfill. Instead, it clutters the sides of roads and swirls in the ocean. Plastic is especially dangerous to the ocean, marine life, and our health. It doesn't biodegrade it photodegrades which means it only gets smaller and smaller.

Keep in mind that “Zero Waste is: The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.”

The Key Takeaway

So while becoming 100% zero waste is unrealistic, you can still do your part to cut back on the amount of waste. Whether you’re recycling at your home, planning an event or looking to cut back on waste in your business you’ll certainly be playing a big role in improving America’s waste problem.
